  1. What are some of the benefits of taking the online courses? 
    Children’s safety is of the utmost importance. NPPS courses will increase playground safety knowledge and awareness.  Playground safety training is the necessary action or preventative action in order to protect children.  Participants in the supervision courses will receive a curriculum package of materials to deepen understanding playground behaviors.  Supervisors will learn how to confidently identify playground hazards and prepare emergency plans.  

    Students in the playground inspection courses will learn how to inspect the outdoor play environment for good physical layout and visual supervision, an appropriate environment, appropriate fall surface materials, ADA compliance, and equipment maintenance issues, and consider how to bring curricular components into the outdoor environment.  Students in these courses will come away with a deep understanding of how to identify compliant and non-compliant features of play areas, as well as a wealth of resources to help mitigate problem areas.  
     
  2. Will I have to attend a class? 
    No.  NPPS courses are all on-line and are designed to be completed at one’s own pace.
     
  3. What kinds of learning experience can I expect with these online training courses? 
    Courses offer a variety of learning experiences.  Instruction takes place through educational videos and pictures, and reading materials.  These courses also offer the opportunity to gets hands-on learning experiences while conducting an onsite play area assessment using a model framework provided by NPPS.  Additionally, discussion boards, chat rooms, and available instructors will help guide learning throughout the duration of the course.
     
  4. How much time should I expect to devote to the course?
    The exact amount of time needed will depend on how familiar each participant is with the information coming into the course. Typically, the average learner spends 16 hours on the inspection certification courses and six hours of the supervision certification course.
