National Playground Study

The National Program for Playground Safety is excited to conduct a National Playground Study. We are located at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and were established in 1995.

What are we doing?

We will be visiting randomly selected playgrounds around the country to look at a variety of playground surfaces and gather information on the types of playground equipment and condition of those surface materials. This study will utilize equipment called the Triax Tripod System that helps give information on the condition of the playground surface. It calculates speed, time, and impact.

Why are we doing this?

The information will give us data to help make decisions on reducing playground related injuries.
