School-Age Play Areas Safety Inspector Certification
Intended towards school facility managers, park and recreation professionals, risk managers, maintenance technicians, safety officers, insurance agents, and other professionals who conduct playground safety inspections for spaces designed for children ages 5-12.
What is covered
The virtual training covers standards and guidelines from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, ASTM International, ADA, CSA Z614-20, National School-Age Care Alliance, and other agencies who have been influential in the safety of children’s playspaces. Through this training, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to be a certified inspector of outdoor play areas and playgrounds designed for children ages 5-12 years. You’ll learn how to inspect the safety of the playground overview, physical layout for safety and supervision, playground considerations, age-appropriateness, playground hazards, equipment specifications, parts of the playground, surfacing requirements, playground testing procedures, accessibility & ADA, athletic fields, asphalt areas, sport courts, and the safety of the surrounding environment.

Training Requirements
Three virtual, synchronous training sessions
Each session will include 90 minutes for a total of six (6) hours of learning.
Five hours of asynchronous learning,
including readings and guided learning activities.
On-site Safety Assessment
Each participant will be required to complete an on-site safety assessment of a play area designed for children 5-12 years of age and translate the findings into a written report.
Successfully pass quizzes and the final exam
Renewing Certification
Certifications are valid for three years. We will honor School and Community Outdoor Playground Inspector, Elementary School and Youth/Community Playground Inspector Certification and other playground safety inspector certifications for renewal. Renewing your certification will enable you to update skills, stay informed with current standards, guidelines, and regulations, and connect with experts.
